GNE = Epiplatys (Parepiplatys) guineensis

In 1979 Romand found GNE in the Toukoudi River, a tributary of the Konkouri River in Guinea, but was not able to bring any back alive but in 1993 was able to collect GNE again in November and February in ten locations in throughout Guinea and one location in Liberia and was this time able to bring them back alive to France. By 1994 Romand described Epiplatys guineensis as a new species.

Found in the Toukoudi River, a tributary of Konkouré River, 36 kilometers south of town of Mamou, 10°17'N, 12°27'W, Guinea. Holotype: MNHN 1993-0258. Paratypes: MNHN 1993-0259 (4); MRAC 92-059-P-2338-2347. Distribution: West Africa: northwestern Guinea.

Commercial Imports

In 2009 Collier as well as aquarists in Europe GNE from a commercial import; Collier included them in his 2009 study on Epiplatys. In 2022 GNE was imported into America by Rehoboth Aquatics in the USA.
