If GEM2020-7 this is definitely pulcher. The location is in the same basin as where the types were collected by Lambert. The resemblance in colour pattern with miltotaenia is a beautiful example of convergent evolution: independently derived red lateral line. Cephalic sensory system and DNA tells that pulcher and miltotaenia are not related at all.
Not only Eberl but also Laurent Chirio collected this fish in the pulcher basin near Ntoum. DNA is sequenced of Laurent's fish and it is not related to miltotaenia. Also D, D/A, transversal scale rows and some other characters are different. miltotaenia has a restricted range but the miltotaenia group with several undescribed (very different looking) species has a much larger distribution. We are working now on the redescription of all described species and subsequently, we will come with many new species. JVDZ Oct 2021
