From the highlands of Maharashtra, it grows on marshy lands, and has always been a confusing plant. Thick rhizomes lies under the soil, not perennial plant; needs winter dormancy.
Grows fully submerged then some time to moist dry area in season. Thin narrow leaf with orange to dark brown color when submerged. Thin rhizomes, flowers in January. Perennial Cryptocoryne prefers to grow in clay mixed sand in shady areas.
